Frequently Asked Questions

This page contains answers to the most commonly asked questions about our wedding.  As we make more final plans and receive more questions, this page will be updated with additional information.  If you have a question that has not been answered on this page, please email us at

When is the wedding?

The wedding will take place on February 10, 2024.  We are anticipating a 6:30pm ceremony start time.  Please plan to arrive at the North Carolina Aquarium around 6:00pm for the ceremony.

Are you having a welcome party?

Yes! We are having a welcome party on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 8:30pm to 10:30pm at the SeaWitch Tiki Bar. The SeaWitch is located at 227 Carolina Beach Avenue N, Carolina Beach, NC 28428, and it is conveniently located a short walk from the Courtyard Carolina Beach Oceanfront where we have secured a hotel block for guests. If you are invited to the wedding, you are also invited to the welcome party, and we hope you will join us!

Where can I find the schedule?

Our schedule page contains the information regarding events, start times, and locations.

Venue, Lodging, & Transportation

What is the wedding venue’s address?

900 Loggerhead Rd, Kure Beach, NC 28449

I’m from out of town.  Where should I stay?

We recommend the Courtyard Carolina Beach Oceanfront, located at 100 Charlotte Ave, Carolina Beach, NC, 28428.  This is one of the largest hotels in the Carolina Beach/Kure Beach area, has beautiful views of the ocean, and is only a fifteen minute drive from the wedding venue - a drive you won't have to make, since we're arranging transportation between the hotel and the wedding venue. The link above goes directly to our hotel block, which closes January 9, 2023.

If you are planning to stay at a beach house, BNB, or other rental, we recommend staying at or as close as possible to Kure Beach.

If you plan to stay in Wilmington as opposed to on Carolina Beach or Kure Beach, please make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to the venue. If you aren’t familiar with local geography, Wilmington and its surrounding beaches basically form a triangular peninsula (see the map to the right).  Kure Beach is the southernmost part of that triangle, and the N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher is located at the southernmost part of Kure Beach (see the red pin).  This means that getting from Wilmington to the Aquarium requires driving about twelve miles south, crossing a bridge to Carolina Beach, driving all the way through Carolina Beach, and then driving all the way through Kure Beach.  As noted on its website, the N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher is twenty miles south of Wilmington.

If you want to stay in Wilmington, you are more than welcome - it’s a great place with lots to do!  But please be aware that, depending on where in the city you choose to stay, the venue will likely be a 40 to 60 minute drive from your hotel, and plan accordingly.

Will transportation be provided?

We will have a shuttle service between the venue and the Courtyard Carolina Beach Oceanfront.

I signed up for transportation. What do I do?

Shuttles will leave the Courtyard Carolina Beach Oceanfront at 5:40pm and 5:55pm. To make sure everyone has time to get into the aquarium and find a seat, we ask that guests strongly consider planning to take the 5:40pm shuttle and leaving the 5:55pm shuttle for anyone running late.

I'm not using the transportation - is there parking?

Yes. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher offers free parking.  We will be serving beer and wine, so please plan accordingly.

Dress Code

What is the dress code for the wedding?

The dress code will be black tie optional.  We know we probably don’t have to say it, but please no white dresses.

What is black tie optional?

Tuxedos, two- or three- piece suits with ties or bow ties, evening gowns, formal jumpsuits, and cocktail dresses are all appropriate.  If you’re still unsure, the Knot has a great breakdown with several examples of appropriate attire.

What is the dress code for the welcome party?

We have no dress code for the welcome party; come as you are! The SeaWitch is a casual bar, and casual attire is perfectly appropriate.

Children & Guests

Can I bring a guest?

Only if your invitation is addressed to you and your guest.  Due to venue and vendor capacity, we are only able to accommodate the individuals to whom invitations are addressed.  If you have a question regarding to whom your invitation is addressed, please email us at

Can I bring my child?

No, unless your invitation is address to you and your child. We are planning this as an adults-only event, and we are only able to accommodate the individuals to whom invitations are addressed due to our venue's and vendors' limited capacity.  If you have a question regarding to whom your invitation is addressed, please email us at  While we will understand if you can't attend, we hope this notice affords you enough time to make other arrangements and celebrate with us!

Fish? At a wedding???

Yes!!! (and sharks!) We are so excited to have the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher as our wedding venue, and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!

Where can I learn more about the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher?

Please visit the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher's website for more information about our venue.

What foods and drinks will be served?

Appetizers will be served after the ceremony, with a buffet dinner to follow.  We anticipate serving beer, wine, and malt beverages.  No liquor is permitted in the North Carolina Aquarium.

Will any part of the wedding be outside?

This is an indoor wedding.  A brief outdoor walk is required to get from the parking lot to the main room of the aquarium where guests will enter and exit the wedding.  If the weather is nice, we hope to conduct a brief sendoff for the couple outdoors on a wooden deck.  You should not expect to spend any substantial time outside, especially if it is cold or raining.

Can I take pictures or video during the ceremony?

Please, no pictures or video during the ceremony.  Photography during the ceremony can interfere with our vendors' ability to do their jobs.  Don't worry - there will be plenty of opportunities for you to get pictures with your favorite shark, otter, or jellyfish during the cocktail hour and reception!

I have an allergy, dietary restriction, or food sensitivity.  How can I let you know?
